Objective: As a result of their schooling,

Students will identify the five senses

Pair body parts with the appropriate senses

Learn about the holiest month of the Islamic calendar



The book Ramadan, by Suhaib Hamid Ghazi

1. Teach the students about our five senses. Tell them our five senses are hearing, seeing, smelling, touching and tasting.

2. Have the students work on the worksheet.

3. After the students have finished the worksheet, read them the story Ramadan, by Suhaib Hamid Ghazi. Ask them to pay attention to the main character in the story, Hakeem. On each page, Hakeem is using at least on of the five senses. Have the students point out as many senses that Hakeem is using throughout the book.

4. After reading the story assess the student’s knowledge about Ramadan.


Here are some sample questions you may ask:

Who celebrates Ramadan? ( Muslims)

What is Ramadan? ( The holy month of fasting for Muslims)

Which of the five senses does Hakeem NOT use in the month of during Ramadan between sunrise and sunset? ( taste)

What is the early meal called that Muslims families get together to eat during the month of Ramadan? ( Suhur)

Why do Muslims fast?

What are some other things that Muslims do during the month of Ramadan?
