List of Do’s and Don’ts when Planning Your Trip this Year

 

 

Do’s for Hajj:.

 

.1. Study how to perform Hajj & Umrah well in advance before you go, (Do NOT rely on others to help you as you may get separated)

2. Know the Fiqh of Hajj / Umrah (especially the rules of Ihraam) before you leave.

3. Learn the Fiqh of praying a Janaza (funeral prayer). You will be doing it after every single prayer.

4. Use your time wisely – Do dhikr, du’aa, recite Qur’aan (Do NOT waste time shopping or purchasing gifts).

5. Prepare yourself for a lot of walking.  Practice walking daily (weeks before you leave for your trip). (more…)

                                                          What You Should Be Packing for Your Journey

Clothes / Shoes

Ihram (3 yard length and 60 inch with in hand luggage) An extra Ihram can come in handy

2 or 3 Jilbabs (at least one in hand luggage)

2 pairs of sandals (in hand luggage)

Only a few outfits. Travel light, you can wash your clothes there

Plenty of undergarments

Ihram belt (waist pouch)

Light weight sweater or shawl that can also be used as an extra blanket during Muzdalifah

Socks

Toiletries

Miswaak  / toothbrush / toothpaste

Plastic squeeze bottle for the bathroom

Wild Ones is giving up to $500 to K-12 classrooms that use native plants to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of natural landscaping.

Play with Your Produce Classroom Challenge
Deadline: October 30, 2011 – Produce for Kids (PFK)

Sometimes, it’s okay to play with your food. PFK is awarding $500-1,000 to classrooms that create activities that get K-6 kids to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Education Grants
Deadline: October 31, 2011 – Lawrence Foundation

The Lawrence Foundation is offering grants to nonprofits, public schools, and libraries that propose educational programs.

Mickelson ExxonMobil Teacher Academy
Deadline: October 31, 2011 – National Science Teacher Association (NSTA)

The NSTA is sponsoring a free summer camp to 3rd-5th grade teachers who wish to learn more about mathematics and science.
